Not meaning to be racist, but black culture definitely is self-defeating. Rappers take the idiotic stereotype of "gangsta" and, like white kids emulating indie rockers and emo kids, black kids emulate it. You can't blame them. The majority of people in any race are followers. Black culture needs to move away from the "ideal" that many black culture icons represent of being a "thug" or "pimp", and move towards the progressive, intelligent, successful ideal of being like Samuel L. Jackson or Halle Berry.

Look, this isn't self-defeatism, this shit goes on all the time. It's not the culture of black, it's the culture of poverty. This song could as easily apply to a poor Hispanic, a poor white, a poor Native American.
Childbirth at a young age, unprotected sex, deadbeat fathers that want to play but can't or won't pay. How do black people have a corner on that?

I live in the rural Midwest, buddy, trust me, poor whites have children out of wedlock too.

In short, it's easy to spit on a position you think is 'below' you, or that you think you'll never be in. A single mother busting her ass to take on the burden of raising a child by herself is better than your arrogant ass has much hope of ever being, obviously.
